For 40 years, Santa Claus has helped light the giant Christmas tree at South Coast Plaza, marking his arrival for the holiday season.

The Big Guy joined in the entertainment again this week as the 94,000 lights decorating the 96-foot white fir were powered on, lighting the night sky.

The show featured actor Matthew Morrison, an alum of the Orange County School of the Arts, as well as current students of the campus who performed.

The tree is in Town Center Park, adjacent to the Westin South Coast Plaza. Santa meets with children for the season indoors at the mall.
